Women in Digital is passionate about creating a connected world where everyone can shape, contribute to, and succeed through technology and digital innovation. For over 10 years, we have been a cornerstone of the Australian tech community, championing gender diversity and building a more inclusive industry.
We believe technology should be built by all people, for all people. That’s why we’ve created an inclusive, welcoming community for women in digital and their allies—because diversity is not just an ideal; it’s essential.
While we advocate for all forms of diversity, our primary focus is on gender equity. Why? Because women make up 51% of Australia’s population but only 29% of the technology workforce (2021 ACS Digital Pulse Report). Comparatively, women represent 48% of other professional and scientific industries. The gap is undeniable, and we are committed to closing it.
Focusing on gender diversity isn’t just about fairness – it’s about driving meaningful change. Research shows that by increasing gender diversity in tech, we can:
But beyond the numbers, a more inclusive tech industry means better products, more fulfilling careers, and greater opportunities for individuals to balance work and family life.
At Women in Digital, we’re here to lead the way by:
We connect humans in the industry through quarterly networking and panel events. Through our events, we aspire to make digital and technology an inclusive place where everyone can belong.
We educate each other through telling the stories and sharing the careers of women in digital. We are passionate about telling the real stories (grit and all) of women in digital and realising the potential of individuals, organisations and the industry through diversity.
We empower women and companies through our industry-leading annual Women in Digital awards program, the WIDAwards.
Women in Digital was created by Holly Tattersall (now Holly Hunt) after a series of life events that led her to realise that the digital industry was missing something.
It was 2014, and in the words of her then manager, digital was just becoming ‘a thing’. She had just joined an ASX-listed recruitment agency after returning to Australia following a 2-year travel stint (ever the entrepreneur, Holly also founded a travel company in Colombia during that time). With a HR degree and a passion for digital marketing, building a presence in the burgeoning digital space made sense. She was fascinated by the confidence gap presented between female and male candidates, the lack of inclusive digital events and she felt a drive to support women in realising their potential.
After a number of serendipitous conversations with other women in the space and finding herself in situations where she struggled to find events in which her interests belonged, she was inspired to create Women in Digital; an organisation that connects industry leaders to host practical, skill-based workshops, have real conversations about career growth and bring together like-minded humans who can support one another.
