Juliette Murphy
CEO & Co-Founder
FloodMapp

Juliette Murphy is the CEO and Co-Founder of FloodMapp – a world-first flood modelling solution purpose-built for impact-based flood forecasting and emergency management.

The judges were nothing short of inspired by Juliette’s journey as a founder and the triumphant success of FloodMapp, particularly in the wake of Brisbane’s recent flood disaster. Her ability to overcome a number of technical and human challenges as a deep tech start-up to achieve 1,370% growth in sales revenue from FY21 is a credit to her tenacity, grit and resilience as a leader.

Whilst the other finalist’s entries were incredibly impressive, Juliette’s vision, real-world impact and leadership ultimately landed her Women in Digital’s Founder of the Year title.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

“A true innovator! What a journey; and hats off for the commercial validation and growth to date as deep tech is a tough place to play in Australia.”

“What a fantastic example of ‘If not me, then who? If not now, then when?’ With only a mission to use her technical expertise to help save homes and lives, I loved that Juliette also discovered a business.”

April’s nomination was extremely captivating. Her passion for visual storytelling, youth advocacy, approach to digital learning, First Nations digital art education, continuous professional development (including upskilling in augmented reality) and transformational leadership were deeply embedded in her submission and ultimately led her to be a stand-out finalist in our judge’s eyes.

Here’s what the judges had to say:

“April’s story is so niche and this is why we have to shine a light on it. It’s so important to tell stories to the next generation. Her skill set connects two fields of digital and comms and to me, it’s such an exciting area that is typically quite siloed. Couple that with the importance of hero-ing First Nations and other underrepresented groups – I hope she’s the catalyst this area needs.”

“It is evident that April is selfless in the work she does day-to-day feeding the minds of the youth, but also in her time with all of the consulting and volunteering she does for organisations focusing on Women and other underrepresented groups.”
